In 2004 we brought home two Parson Russell Terrier puppies, brothers we named Basil and Jake. We were over the moon, but our excitement didn't last long, because every trainer I spoke to warned me I'd made a terrible mistake. Two brothers would constantly compete for the top dog position, they said, and sooner or later I'd have no choice but to rehome one of them.
I simply couldn't imagine giving either of them up.
